The tit-for-tat diplomatic expulsions are just the latest escalation in tensions between Russia and the West. The U.K., the U.S., NATO, and more than two dozen other countries have all expelled Russian diplomats in recent weeks in a show of solidarity with Britain. The Czech Republic is one of several European Union countries that have taken similar action.
On Saturday, Russia announced it was expelling five diplomats each from Norway and Poland and four each from Denmark and Germany. It also said it would withdraw its ambassador to Copenhagen for consultations, a day after Denmark announced it would expel two Russian diplomats suspected of planning cyberattacks on Western nations.
